You Don't Need More Followers. You Need to Start Making Offers.

Have you ever caught yourself saying, "I'll start promoting my photography services once I have more followers?"

Maybe you've convinced yourself that if your Instagram grew faster, your inquiries would naturally increase. Or perhaps you've been waiting for your posts to get more engagement before you finally talk about your services.

It sounds logical.

After all, more followers should mean more clients... right?

But what if the thing keeping you from booking more photography clients isn't your audience size at all?

In another coaching session from Heather's "Simplify to Solve" series, photographer Ashley shares a challenge that many photographers quietly carry. You can check her beautiful works at https://ashleyanitaphotography.com/

Ashley has an idea for a signature photography session that could introduce new people to her work, grow her email list, and create future opportunities for repeat business. The strategy is already there. She knows who it's for, how she wants to offer it, and why it would benefit her clients. Yet she finds herself hesitating because of one thought:

"What if nobody says yes?"

If you've ever delayed launching an offer because you weren't sure anyone would buy, you're not alone.

Most photographers don't struggle because they lack ideas.

They struggle because they expect certainty before they're willing to take action.

We spend so much time trying to answer questions that no one can possibly know beforehand.

Will anyone book?
What if no one comments?
What if I launch it and nobody responds?

Those questions feel important, but they don't actually move your business forward. In fact, they usually keep you exactly where you are, thinking, planning, second-guessing, and waiting for confidence to magically appear.

Heather offers Ashley a refreshingly simple perspective.

What if this wasn't a high-stakes business decision?
What if it was simply... an experiment?
That one word removes so much pressure.

Experiments aren't designed to prove whether you're successful or unsuccessful. They're designed to collect information. You put an offer into the world, observe how people respond, and learn from the results. Whether ten people book or no one books at all, you've gained valuable insight that helps you improve the next version.

Think about how many things you've learned behind your camera.

You didn't become a better photographer by reading about lighting.
You became better by testing different lighting setups.
You didn't master posing by watching YouTube videos alone.
You practiced.
You adjusted.
You experimented.

So why should marketing be any different?

Perhaps that's a question every photographer should ask themselves.

Are you waiting until you know your offer will work... or are you willing to let the market teach you what works?

Those are two very different mindsets.

As the coaching continues, another obstacle comes to the surface.

Ashley admits that posting about her offer feels uncomfortable because she doesn't want to sound salesy. She doesn't want every post to feel like she's asking people to buy from her. It's a fear many photographers share, especially when social media already feels noisy.

Heather responds with a perspective that completely reframes marketing.

Instead of asking yourself, "How can I get people to buy?"

Ask yourself, "How can I serve the people who need this?"

That shift changes everything.

If you genuinely believe your photography experience will help families preserve memories, celebrate milestones, or create artwork they'll cherish for years, then talking about your offer isn't selfish.

It's helpful.

Your ideal clients can't book a session they never knew existed.

Sometimes we convince ourselves we're being humble by staying quiet, when in reality we're making it harder for the right people to find us.

Another powerful moment in the conversation comes when Ashley realizes this offer isn't her entire business. She already has other clients and other opportunities coming in, which means she doesn't have to approach this one strategy with desperation. Instead, she can show up with curiosity, consistency, and confidence.

That's an important reminder for every photographer.

When one post feels like it has to save your business, you'll naturally create from fear.

But when you see each post as one invitation among many, you create from abundance instead.

You stop chasing clients.
You start serving them.

Heather encourages Ashley to commit to talking about her offer consistently for 30 days—not because repeating yourself is annoying, but because most business owners give up long before their audience has even noticed what they're offering. The goal isn't to post once and hope for the best. The goal is to keep experimenting with different ways of communicating the same message until you discover what resonates.

Toward the end of the coaching session, Heather shares something she calls the belief triad: believing in yourself, believing in your offer, and believing that there are people who genuinely want what you provide. When one of those beliefs is missing, marketing starts to feel uncomfortable. You hesitate before posting. You second-guess your captions. You worry about bothering people.

But when those three beliefs work together, marketing begins to feel less like selling and more like inviting.

So before you spend another month wishing for more followers, ask yourself a different question: Have I clearly invited people to work with me?

Because your next client may not be waiting for your account to reach ten thousand followers.

They may simply be waiting for you to believe in your offer enough to share it.
