Part 2: How Shelbi Created $6,300 in Revenue from Model Calls

What if the thing holding you back in your business… isn’t your pricing, your marketing, or even your strategy—but the thoughts you’re carrying underneath it all?

That’s what makes this episode of the Flourish Academy podcast so powerful. Because while the first episode focused on the exact structure behind Shelbi’s successful model calls, this conversation goes deeper into something most photographers completely overlook: mindset.

And honestly? That might be the real reason her model calls worked so well.

A lot of photographers are constantly searching for the “perfect strategy.” The right marketing plan, the right pricing structure, the right words to say on social media. And while strategy absolutely matters, this episode highlights something equally important: the beliefs behind your actions. Because two photographers can use the exact same strategy and get completely different results.

Why?

Because one person approaches it with certainty… while the other approaches it with doubt. And clients can feel that difference.

Throughout the episode, Heather points out the thoughts Shelbi carried into her process. Not just what she did, but how she thought about what she was doing.

One of the most powerful examples was when Shelbi said she felt confident in where the process was taking her. That one thought changes everything. Because when you believe something can work, you show up differently. You communicate differently. You make decisions differently.

You stop hesitating.
You stop apologizing.
You stop second-guessing every move.
And instead, you start acting like someone who already believes in the value of what they offer.

That energy matters more than most photographers realize.

Another thing that stood out was how decisive Shelbi became in her business. She wasn’t leaving room for confusion or trying to appeal to everyone. She made clear decisions about the type of clients she wanted, how she wanted her model calls structured, what products she would offer, and what kind of experience she wanted people to have.

And because she was clear, her clients became clear too.

I think a lot of photographers struggle because they’re waiting to feel fully confident before making bold decisions in their business. But confidence usually doesn’t come first. Clarity and decisions do.

Sometimes confidence is built after you decide to trust yourself.
After you stop changing your mind every five minutes.
After you stop looking for validation from everyone else.
After you commit to a direction and give it enough time to work.
That’s exactly what Shelbi did.

There was also a moment in the episode where Heather pointed out something really important: strategy without belief won’t work. And honestly, that hits hard because so many photographers are trying to execute strategies while secretly believing they won’t work for them.

You can hear it in the way people talk about their business:
“No one wants to spend money right now.”
“People in my area won’t pay that.”
“I’m probably asking for too much.”
“This only works for bigger photographers.”

But when those are the thoughts running beneath the surface, they shape your actions more than you realize.

Shelbi’s thoughts sounded different.

She believed people were excited to work with her. She believed the clients she selected would spend. She believed her process was valuable.

And because she believed it, she built a business that reflected it.

That doesn’t mean she never struggled or doubted herself. In fact, earlier in her journey, she talked openly about feeling frustrated, defeated, and discouraged when things weren’t working. But instead of staying stuck there, she chose to learn, refine, and approach her business differently.

That’s the part people don’t always see behind success stories.
Not just the strategy.
The mindset shifts.
The decisions.

The willingness to think differently, even before the results fully show up.
And maybe that’s the bigger takeaway from this entire conversation.

Your business changes the moment you stop approaching it from fear and start approaching it from belief.

Belief in your value.
Belief in your process.
Belief that the right clients exist.
Belief that what you’re building can actually work.

Because when you change the thoughts driving your business, you change the way you show up inside of it.

And eventually… the results start to change too.

So if you’ve been feeling stuck lately, questioning yourself, or wondering why things don’t seem to be working no matter how hard you try, maybe this is your reminder to look deeper than strategy alone.

Maybe the breakthrough you’re waiting for isn’t another marketing tip or pricing guide.

Maybe it starts with finally deciding to believe that what you offer is valuable—and showing up like you mean it.

Because the photographers who grow aren’t always the ones with the best strategy.

Sometimes, they’re simply the ones who stopped doubting themselves long enough to let the strategy actually work.
